Welcome to The Israel Energy Forum

The Israel Energy Forum (IEF) is a group of public, private and third sector organizations committed to strengthening Israel’s energy security and independence. Our mission is to help develop and implement a sustainable energy policy which will advance energy efficiency and increased use and development of non-polluting renewables.

Israel is currently experiencing an energy crisis defined by limited resources, rising costs and mounting environmental damage. Israel’s current energy policy and recent trends do not promise a sustainable future:

  • In the summers of 2006 and 2007 there were an increasing number of electrical blackouts
  • Current government plans to build additional coal power plants will increase emissions by 10.5%
  • In 2005, 99.8% of Israel’s electric consumption was from fossil fuels.
  • A 2003 study conducted by the Ministry of Environment, the US Environmental Protection Agency and the IUED indicated that more people die in Israel from Air Pollution than from traffic accidents.
  • The current water policy calling for additional desalination will dramatically increase the need for additional power.

IEF is committed to improving this situation through the following:

  • Bringing together all stakeholders in energy issues to draft solutions
  • Providing useful research and ideas for public debate
  • Advocating for greater energy efficiency and greater use of renewable energy

The work of the Israel Energy Forum is enabled by the support of the following entities, and we would like to thank them for that:

  • The Green Environment Fund
  • Max and Anna Levinson Foundation
  • Richard and Rhoda Goldman Fund
  • Israel Venture Network
  • The Heinrich Boell Foundation
